After a year spent in South Korea, Chris Kokiousis moved back to the United States and refocused his creative efforts. As UV Tourist, the California native issued two EPs of skewed electronic pop in 2011, transplanting his garage-rock guitar and melodic vocals into a beat producer's domain. Now based in Los Angeles, Kokiousis returns to music after years of traveling, writing, and drawing influence from the East.
Make you go Dream is the most dance-focused release from UV Tourist yet, placing his stylistic roots into a reflective house framework. As the title track's ascending synth lines glow and soften, insistent kicks drive guitars in playful formations.
"Overcoat" borrows equally from Brooklyn and Seoul, with delicate, interwoven notes riding the skittering rhythm to its peak. Kindled by city chemistry, "Red Carpet Inn" ends the EP in a jazz-tinged cadence, while smoky vocal samples coax out layers of cocooned guitar.
